Animating 1,750 glasses into position
Each of the 1,750 Johnnie Walker glasses were positioned by hand to make the representation of the Mclaren MP4-28. The motion of these glasses was created with a combination of path animation and constraining them to deforming geometry. The smash of the glass car, simulated in Houdini took around 8 days to compute and generated a 100GB alembic file that was imported back into Maya for rendering.
These three movies show part of the master animation file of the 1,750 glasses animating into position, the dynamic crash simulation and a turntable of the glass car itself.
